CHARITY SEEKING VOLUNTEERS TO HELP PEOPLE BACK TO WORK ACROSS LONDON

Welfare to work charity Careers Development Group (CDG) is on the lookout for talented and inspirational people in London who can give some of their time to help people who have been unemployed for some time, back to work, and to stay in work.

CDG delivery centres across London are looking for people who, through their own experience of the job market and finding work, could support individual jobseekers giving advice and encouragement on their journey back to employment.

The charity is looking for people who are:

  • enthusiastic about sharing their skills and career experience with local people in London
  • interested in helping others find and stay in employment, and
  • keen to develop their coaching and mentoring skills.

These volunteers might have worked in HR or recruitment, or have experience of job interviews from both sides of the table. They might be able to teach IT skills, help with CV writing or help people who do not have a good understanding of English.

All will be enthusiastic about giving a small amount of their time, from just two hours a month, and have experience to share which can help people in their community who may be struggling to find work.

Volunteers will be trained and will receive advice on how best to use their skills and experience to help. Volunteers and jobseekers will be matched according to the experience of the volunteer and the needs of the jobseeker. Volunteers can then give help and advice, both in the jobseekers’ search for work and helping them to stay in employment once they are there.

Rebecca Green, national volunteering manager at Careers Development Group, said:

“This is an exciting new project which will add to the range of services which we already offer to jobseekers on their journey towards work. Volunteers, by giving their time and experience, will help to make more people successful in their efforts to move off benefits and into work.

“The rewards, for jobseekers, for volunteers and for London could be great.”
