During a day of networking and activities, Mayor of Guildford Marsha Moseley met customers, CDG staff, local employers and representatives from other charities to see how our Guildford centre is promoting equality and diversity.|
The day, held on Wednesday 4 August, was organised to raise awareness of the issues surrounding equality and diversity and to provide advice and guidance in overcoming the barriers to find employment.
Winnie Mudachi Ball, business manager at the Guildford centre, said: “CDG as an organisation embraces equality and diversity of opportunity and we here at Guildford felt that we could take this further by introducing diversity and the equality awareness/event day to ensure continuity of this ethos.
“This was a great opportunity for our customers to speak to employers, CDG staff and other organisations that work to offer support surrounding equality and diversity.”
The event showcased CDG customers’ skills while offering an opportunity to network and chat to each other about each of their own experiences in finding work.
There were a variety of organisations providing advice and counselling services for those who find it difficult to work and a number of employers present including the British Heart Foundation, The Royal Navy, the halow project and Guildford Borough Council.
CDG staff were also on hand to showcase the wide variety of services available to their customers, giving them an opportunity to talk freely to all members of the staff at the Guildford centre.
Marsha Moseley said: “It is important that we have an organisation like CDG that can work with the local community and with local employers and I urge local employers to get engaged with CDG so that they can find placements for people so they can gain experience.
James Hill, a CDG customer, said: “CDG has given me motivation and belief in striving for a full-time job to get back into work. The day has been very effective for networking and showcasing my talent.”
